Nouns

We have been studying nouns this week in Kindergarten. We have learned that a noun is a person, place, or thing. We participated in a movement game where we sorted ourselves into three categories around the room based on what picture we had pulled from a noun pile. Then, our students had the opportunity to go around the school and find items that were nouns. Finally, they we able to move their pictures into a Keynote presentation for you to enjoy here on the blog. Let us know what you think about our show by leaving a comment.  Enjoy our pictures from our movement game, as well.

Third Week Highlights

We have been studying about our community helpers. We had an opportunity to meet some of our community helpers and learn about their jobs. Check out our pictures of our special guests below! Our students also created a Keynote presentation which shows them dressed up as the community helper that they hope to be in the future.

Finally, we enjoyed a day with our grandparents this week. In honor of Grandparents' Day, we created a slide show which includes the music that we sang to them that day and pictures from our event. We are so very thankful to all of our grandparents who attended! We hope you had a wonderful time!

Second Week Highlights

We have been working hard this week on our numbers 1-5. We have learned a fun song for each number and have been singing away as we learn to recognize, write, and count using these numbers. We even made our numbers out of playdough. Check out our pictures below! In addition, we have been talking about ourselves and our family. We created avatars that look like ourselves. We then compared our eye color, hair color, etc. and talked about how we are alike and different. Please enjoy our show from this week. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.

First Week Highlights

We had so much fun the first week of school! One of our favorite activities was hunting for the gingerbread man around our school, as we learned about the different locations we could visit here at Watson. We did not catch him, but we did get to enjoy some of his edible friends that he left for us to snack on. We took some time to get to know our new friends and created a slide show of our pictures, once we each had a chance to take our picture using the Ipad2 at recess. We also learned about what it means to be a friend and what it means to be a bully. We created popplets using the Ipad2s to organize our thoughts on what it means to be a friend or a bully. Finally, as a culmination activity at the end of the week, we created a list of our ten favorite things about school. Please take some time and enjoy our projects from this first week. Feel free to leave us a comment and tell us what you think!

Dallas Zoo

During the past two weeks our Kindergarten and First Grade students have been hard at work researching endangered animals. Together in small groups, our students learned about panda bears, polar bears, tigers, elephants, gorillas, and sea turtles. They studied ways to help these endangered animals and then created propaganda to help educate others about the needs of these animals. Then, we took to the hallways and advocated for the protection of our endangered animals as we paraded through our school encouraging our Watson family to help save these animals. We also created commercials which our Watson family viewed in support of our cause. Finally, our school family is helping us to raise donations for the Wylie Insync Exotic tiger refuge. We will then donate these items to their facility later this week. After all of our hard work these past two weeks, we had some fun exploring the Dallas Zoo and seeing the animals that we learned about all week in person. You can enjoy our parade, commercials, and zoo show below. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.

Legoland

What a wonderful field trip we had to Legoland. This event culminated our unit on tall towers and bridges. After learning about what a building needs to remain strong and how the parts of a building work together as a system, we traveled to Legoland where we created our own tall towers and tested them on the earthquake tables. Watch our show to see our adventure. Let us know what you think by leaving us a comment!

Under Construction

The week that we studied systems we talked about tall towers, bridges, and nests. We discussed what a building would need to have in order to withstand natural disasters and be a good structure for a home. Here are the towers that our children created in class that week. These towers were the inspiration for our towers that we built at the end of the week at Legoland. We have also included pictures of the bridges that we created and the nests that we made to try to save Humpty Dumpty from cracking when he fell off the wall. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think about all of our exciting constructions from the week.

Amazing Announcements

This week our Kindergarten students are being featured on the announcements. We had the privilege of creating a presentation for Public School Music Appreciation Week where we encouraged our school friends to participate in our "Cookies for Quarters" campaign to benefit the "Find Your Light" foundation created by Josh Groban. Here it is for you to enjoy! Please leave us a comment and let us know what you think!
