Fall Favorites

This week we have been studying about some fall favorites---apples and pumpkins! We had the opportunity to learn about the life cycle of a pumpkin and an apple, estimate the circumference of our pumpkin, and practice counting pumpkin seeds.

We also reviewed what we have learned about farm animals so far in our Living/Nonliving PBL, "It's Alive!" We took the time this week to create our own farm. Here are some of the amazing blueprints our Kindergartners created.

After learning all about what makes something living, our students had the chance to create an animal from our farm animal PBL and have that animal explain what makes him a living organism. Using the app Chatterpix, they created videos to show you what they have learned. Here are some exciting videos of their creations:

We hope you enjoy our pictures and videos from our fun week! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.

Week 8 Has Been Great! Sequencing, Nouns, and Pumpkin Planting!

What a wonderful eighth week we have had in Kindergarten! We enjoyed learning about the plot in several farm animal stories. We talked about how you can sequence events in a story and how sequencing helps you remember what happened in a story that you have read. Here are some of the stories that we enjoyed and the sequencing activities we did with them:

Rosie's Walk

The Little Red Hen

The Cow Who Clucked

We also reviewed nouns by drawing a person, place, or thing, and then, participating in a noun sort. Here are our nouns:

People

Things

In science, we were introduced to plants on a farm. We created circle maps to record the crops that can be grown on a farm. We also enjoyed the story, Plants on a Farm

In math, we practiced collecting data and graphing that information in a bar graph by recording our classmates' favorite farm animals.

Finally, we kicked off our "It's Alive" PBL with a study of farm animals and an opportunity to open a pumpkin and plant our very own pumpkin seeds. This was our favorite activity of the week! Just look at those smiles! :)

Transportation Projects

After studying our community, we thought that it would be fun to create our own new mode of transportation. As a home-school connection, our Kindergarten students made a new transportation vehicle at home and then presented them at school. Wow! Our Kindergarten students are so very creative. Here is a show we made to showcase their hard work. We hope you like it! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

Classroom Community

Our Kindergarten students and teachers are so very proud of the amazing classroom communities that our children built. During this class project based learning activity, our students learned that our community needed all different kinds of places, people, and things. We created five different categories of buildings that we needed. There were buildings for communication, safety, entertainment, health, and travel. Our students then chose a building that they thought was important and created it for our community. Then, we made a video on our iPads telling why that building was important to our community. We used the Aurasma app to link our videos to our buildings. Then, our Kindergarten families came to school and allowed our Kindergartners to teach them how to use our iPads to view their videos. Here are our classroom community shows. We hope you enjoy them! Leave us a message and tell us what you think!
