Find Your Light Paint Night

We had the privilege of partnering with an amazing artist and friend from Pennsylvania, Asja Randall, this week to work together to create our own beautiful versions of "Polar Twilight." Our Watson Wildcats met virtually with her through Zoom and enjoyed an evening of creativity and camaraderie. We had a wonderful time and were blessed to get to learn from the best, our friend, Asja! In total, we made $1,000 for our Find Your Light Foundation service project bringing us even closer to our end of the year goal of $5,000. We can not thank you enough for joining us this week and helping to support our service project! We appreciate you all and hope that you had a wonderful time! Having fun and helping others to Find Their Light...there's nothing better than that! :)

Here are some exciting pictures of our evening together. Check out our amazing artists here at Watson MST:

Put Some Zing in Your Spring

We celebrated our week before Spring Break with a review of our sight word songs, creating bubble maps with our new word family -en, and an afternoon full of our Fun Run prizes! This special celebration included a popsicle party, a movie in class, free iPad time, and an extra recess. So much fun! We hope you enjoy the pictures and videos as much as we enjoyed these special moments together!

Music Around the World--Week 1--Australia

Welcome to our Music Around the World Class! I am so very excited that your child is joining me in this journey as we travel around the world exploring different countries and their unique music. I have two loves in life—music and children— so I could not be more thrilled to share this experience together with your child. We are going to learn to play instruments and sing songs from different countries. We will share it all with you each week here on our blog. Thank you again for allowing me the privilege to work with your child. I can not wait to share this experience together!

We began our musical tour around the world today by talking about the universal language of music and how it can touch all hearts and help all people. Then, we enjoyed singing "It's a Small World" together before flying around the world to Australia.

The land down under had a lot to offer us! We learned about everything from koala bears to kangaroos and spent a "day in the life" of a girl from Australia on the National Geographic for Kids website. We were also introduced to two of Australia's favorite instruments--bilmas and digeridoos. After listening to one of Australia's traditional songs featuring these instruments, we made our very own bilmas. Boy were they cool too! Finally, we began learning the Australian song that we are going to perform, Kookaburra. It is a silly song that will make you giggle and laugh, while allowing you to soak up the unique sounds of the digeridoos and the bilmas. Here is a show of our first day together. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think about our first week in Music Around the World!

Music Around the World--Week 5--America

Wow! What an exciting day we had today at our fifth morning of our Music Around the World Class! Today we learned about our country--America! We focused on how Texans like to put a country twist on American favorites. After reviewing "It's a Small World", "Kye Kye Kule", and "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, " we were treated to a special guest, Miss Todd's Dad, Mr. Todd. He played his guitar for us and sang, "Sneaky Snake", a song that he and Miss Todd sang together when she was our age.  After enjoying Mr. Todd's presentation, we had the opportunity to create string things, harmonicas, and washboards. We used these instruments to accompany our song, "You Are my Sunshine!" You can listen to our rousing rendition in the show we made below. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think about our fun day!

Don't forget to join us on Thursday night, April 27th at 7:00 P.M. for our presentation of our Music Around the World Celebration Night! You are going to enjoy seeing all of the instruments that we have created and songs that we have learned on our musical journey around the world!

Wonderful Water

This week in Science we enjoyed reviewing everything we have learned about rocks, soil, and water. We learned the uses of each of these natural resources and studied their characteristics.

While studying about water, we learned that water takes the shape of the container that it is in and that the clarity of water is effected by pollution. We explored water and how we could make it rock, spin, and even shake. We also conducted an experiment with solutions and water, where we learned what items dissolved in water and what items did not. We even created our own volcano using water and other mixtures that when combined created a chemical reaction. Check out our amazing video of this experiment:
