Powerful Plants

Just as a flower grows when tended to with love and care, we are continuing to grow in our learning each week. This week we focused on plants. We explored the different types of plants, compared the different seeds that plants come from, and had an opportunity to plant our own lima bean plants. We also made our first trip to our Watson MST garden where we planted clover, alfalfa, and radishes. Here are some pictures and videos from our science explorations from this week.

Music Around the World--Week 2--Africa

We had so much fun in our Music Around the World Class today! We began our morning by reviewing our songs from last week. Ask your child to sing "It's a Small World" and "Kookaburra" for you! We are really working hard to learn the words for these two songs. After a quick review, we jumped into learning all about our new country of the day--Africa!

We were introduced to a child from Africa and learned about a day in her life on our National Geographic for Kids website. Then, we were in for a fabulous treat--a visit from a real musician, Mr. Mark! Mr. Mark taught us about some of Africa's favorite instruments--drums! He played several different types of drums for us. We loved them all! Then, we enjoyed some traditional African music from the African Children's Choir. We were so inspired by these musical experiences that we decided to create our own African instruments--drums, tambourines, and shakers. Finally, we learned an African chant, "Kye, Kye, Kule" and our own rousing rendition of "This Little Light of Mine" complete with African drums, tambourines, and shakers! Here is a show of our morning together! Check it out and let us know what you think by leaving a comment below. We have also included some pictures from another great day! We hope that you enjoy them! Today was so much fun! We can't wait until next week! :)

Sing-A-Long Sundae Party

Our Kindergarten-Second Grade students stayed after school recently to enjoy a Sing-A-Long Sundae Party benefiting our Find Your Light Service Project. Our students had an awesome time creating tasty ice cream sundae treats and singing along to some of our favorite Disney songs! Not only did we have a great time, but we were able to continue to add funds to our Find Your Light Foundation service project! Here are some sweet pictures from our fun afternoon together! We hope you enjoy them!

Terrific Teen Numbers

This week we have been learning about the numbers 11-20. We enjoyed playing hands-on games where we built, composed/decomposed these numbers, and compared them to identify which group had more or less. Check out the fun we had in our pictures below:
