Thanksgiving Musical and Feast

We hope that you were able to come and see our Thanksgiving Musical and Feast today! This was our culminating activity for our study of Thanksgiving. Thankful Thoughts

During our study of Thanksgiving, we talked a lot about being thankful for the blessings that you have been given in your life. Nutrition News

Last week we studied about nutrition. First, we learned about how the foods that we like to eat come from farms. We created a circle map of plants that can be eaten, which are grown on a farm. Then, we learned about healthy food choices and took pictures of foods that we eat at lunch. We used those foods to make a keynote slide show where we identified what food group each of them came from. Then, we used magazines and cut out pictures of healthy foods that we would like to eat. Lunch and Learn

After completing our farm animal study, our Kindergartners created iBooks to present the information that they had learned about farm animals. Farm Animal Research

During our farm unit we did a lot of research on pigs, chickens, goats, sheep, horses, and cows. In order to record their research, our Kindergartners created circle maps complete with farm animal illustrations to help them remember the facts that they had learned about each farm animal. Towers of Power

Our Kindergarten students recently participated in a STEAM challenge (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) where they built tall towers. They were grouped in partners and given fifty dixie cups, one yard of tape, and a pair of scissors. Then, they were allowed to be creative and work together for twenty minutes to build the tallest tower. We all started this challenge at the same time and completed this challenge without any adult assistant. I was impressed with their hard work and determination! There was a lot of critical thinking and active problem solving going on as they worked together to build their towers. We have included some pictures from our challenge below. Fancy Farm Animal

During our study of farm animals, our students created Ibooks where they were able to showcase their work from their farm animal research project. As a part of that study, the children took videos of the farm animal that they were studying while on our farm animal trip. Here are their videos for you all to enjoy! I have also included pictures of the cute farm animal art projects that our Kindergartners created after meeting their animals in person. Fall Favorites

We spent last week finishing up our farm Ibooks and studying some fall favorites---apples and pumpkins! We had the opportunity to open up a pumpkin and see inside of it, estimate the circumference of our pumpkin, and plant our very own pumpkin plants. We have included a class picture of our fun pumpkin day and our finished jack-o-lantern as well as pictures from our circumference game. We hope you enjoy our pictures. Green Meadows Pumpkin Patch

We had a wonderful time exploring Green Meadows Pumpkin Patch where we were able to film and photograph the farm animals that we had been researching for our Ibook projects. Socktober

During the month of October, our Kindergartners here at Watson participated in Kid President's Socktober campaign where he encouraged others to do something kind for your community by collecting socks for the homeless. The socks that we collected were donated to the Friendship House here in our community. Vivacious Verbs

Kindergarten Career Day Skype Session

We had the privilege of Skyping with Mr. Koch, a biologist, for Career Day here at Watson. He shared with us about what he had to do to become a biologist, some of his favorite things about his job, and some of the places he travels as he does his job. Transportation Projects

After studying our community, we thought that it would be fun to create our own new mode of transportation. As a home-school connection, our Kindergarten students made a new transportation vehicle at home and then presented them at school. Wow! Our Kindergarten students are so very creative. Classroom Community

Our Kindergarten students and teachers are so very proud of the amazing classroom communities that our children built. During this class project based learning activity, our students learned that our community needed all different kinds of places, people, and things. We created five different categories of buildings that we needed. There were buildings for communication, safety, entertainment, health, and travel. Our students then chose a building that they thought was important and created it for our community. Then, we made a video on our MacBooks in Photobooth telling why that building was important to our community. We used the Aurasma app to link our videos to our buildings. Then, our Kindergarten families came to school and allowed our Kindergartners to teach them how to use our iPads to view their videos. Here are our classroom community shows. We hope you enjoy them!
