Music Around the World--Christmas Edition--Week 3--Latin America
What a fun day we had in our third day of Music Around the World--Christmas Edition! We learned about Latin America and the exciting music that this country has to offer. We were introduced to two of their favorite instruments the guiro and the maracas. We also enjoyed two of their favorite songs, our Christmas song, "Feliz Navidad", and, a traditional Latin American song, "De Colores." Check out our video from our fun day and some of our favorite pictures.
Hero Week
This week we celebrated Hero Week (Helping Everyone Respect Others) by learning about ways to be a good friend. We created Super Hero friend masks and our motto was "We are SuperHero Friends who Fight Bullying until the end!" Here is a picture from our SuperHero Day and a video that we made of our "Fight" song. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!
Awards Ceremony
We were so excited to celebrate our First Six Weeks award winners at our first awards ceremony. Miss Todd is so proud of all of our award winners, and the hard work that they have shown this six weeks! Here are some pictures and video from our celebration. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

Transportation Projects
After studying our community, we thought that it would be fun to create our own new mode of transportation. As a home-school connection, our Kindergarten students made a new transportation vehicle at home and then presented them at school. Wow! Our Kindergarten students are so very creative. Here is a show we made to showcase their hard work. We hope you like it! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!
Classroom Community
Our Kindergarten students and teachers are so very proud of the amazing classroom communities that our children built. During this class project based learning activity, our students learned that our community needed all different kinds of places, people, and things. We created five different categories of buildings that we needed. There were buildings for communication, safety, entertainment, health, and travel. Our students then chose a building that they thought was important and created it for our community. Then, we made a video on our MacBooks in Photobooth telling why that building was important to our community. We used the Aurasma app to link our videos to our buildings. Then, our Kindergarten families came to school and allowed our Kindergartners to teach them how to use our iPads to view their videos. Here are our classroom community shows. We hope you enjoy them! Leave us a message and tell us what you think!

Music Around the World--A Christmas Edition---Week 2--Africa
We had so much fun in our Music Around the World Class today! We began our morning by reviewing our songs from last week. Ask your child to sing "Let it Be Christmas Everywhere" and "Roo, Roo the Kangaroo" for you! We are really working hard to learn the words for these two songs. After a quick review, we jumped into learning all about our new country of the day--Africa!
We were introduced to some special places from Africa and learned about a day in the life of a child from Africa on our Time for Kids website. Then, we were in for a fabulous treat--a visit from a real musician, Mr. Mark! Mr. Mark taught us about some of Africa's favorite instruments--drums! He played several different types of drums for us. We loved them all! Then, we enjoyed some traditional African music from the African Children's Choir. We were so inspired by these musical experiences that we decided to create our own African instruments--drums, shakers, and tamborines. Finally, we learned our own rousing rendition of "This Little Light of Mine" complete with African drums, shakers, and tamborines! Here is a show of our morning! Check it out and let us know what you think by leaving a comment below. We have also included some pictures from another great day! We hope that you enjoy them! Today was so much fun! We can't wait until next week! :)

Technology, Transportation, and Team Work!
Wow! What a busy week we have had this week in Kindergarten! We have been studying about technology in the past and present. We learned how technology is any tool that makes a task easier. We discovered that even a pencil or crayon can be a type of technology. We learned about how in the past people used chalk to write. We enjoyed having an opportunity to go outside and try out this old technology tool. Here are some pictures from our chalk writings.
We also took time to study about how our technology tools have evolved over the years. Some of the items that we talked about included how we used to use candles and now use lightbulbs for lighting, we used to use a broom and rug beater and now use vacuums, and how we used to use a brick oven and now use conventional ovens for cooking. Here are a couple of pictures from our past and present technology sorting game that we played.
In science, we learned about transportation and the way that things move. We enjoyed reading stories about transportation vehicles and learning songs like the "Wheels on the Bus". We learned how buses can move forward and backwards, left and right, and that the windows can go up and down. We also talked about the different ways that fire trucks can move and the sounds that they make. Then, we created our very own shape buses and participated in a guiding drawing of a fire truck. Here are some pictures of our fabulous creations.
Finally, in math we studied the numbers six through ten this week. We talked about how to write these numbers and then played a game called "Snap it!" where we discovered what combinations of numbers make the numbers six through ten. We created a video of our game and took several pictures. We hope that you enjoy getting to see them below. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think of our fun week together!
