I Have a Dream!

This week in Kindergarten we learned about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and how he helped to change our world for the better! We read about his dream that he had for our world and learned about his many accomplishments. Then, we talked about what our dreams are for the future and what we hope happens to make our world a better place one day! Here are some pictures from our fun week and a video of us sharing our dreams with the world! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think! Share your dreams with us, too! We would love to learn about your hopes for our future world! :)

Music Around the World--Week 2--Africa

We had so much fun in our Music Around the World Class today! We began our morning by reviewing our songs from last week. Ask your child to sing "It's a Small World" and "Kookaburra" for you! We are really working hard to learn the words for these two songs. After a quick review, we jumped into learning all about our new country of the day--Africa!

We were introduced to a child from Africa and learned about a day in her life on our Time for Kids website. Then, we were in for a fabulous treat--a visit from a real musician, Mr. Mark! Mr. Mark taught us about some of Africa's favorite instruments--drums! He played several different types of drums for us. We loved them all! Then, we enjoyed some traditional African music from the African Children's Choir. We were so inspired by these musical experiences that we decided to create our own African instruments--drums, tambourines, and shakers. Finally, we learned an African chant and our own rousing rendition of "This Little Light of Mine" complete with African drums, tambourines, and shakers! Here is a show of our morning! Check it out and let us know what you think by leaving a comment below. We have also included some pictures from another great day! We hope that you enjoy them! Today was so much fun! We can't wait until next week! :)

Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

This week in Kindergarten we have been studying about winter in science. We have learned about what clothes you need to wear in winter, fun activities you can do in the winter, and things that animals do in the winter time. During the week we created several exciting winter art projects including winter people, winter trees, and snowmen. We also had the rare opportunity to experience our very own Texas snow shower! Here are some pictures of our exciting activities and creations. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think of them!

In math this week, we studied about subtraction. We learned that subtraction means to remove something from a group. We practiced creating our own subtraction problems using the minus and equal signs. You can see how we made subtraction problems by illustrating a snowman losing his buttons. We also practiced acting out subtraction problems with snowmen and fruit loop buttons.

Music Around the World--A Christmas Edition

I was blessed this semester to be able to host our third year of Music Around the World with our Kindergarten-Second Grade students here at Watson MST. Together with forty of our talented students, we learned about the different songs and instruments that countries around our world have to offer. After enjoying our Music Around the World Club together for seven weeks, we had the opportunity to present everything that we had learned to our parents and school family at our Music Around the World Celebration Night--A Christmas Edition. I was so very proud of our boys and girls! They did a fantastic job! I want to thank our school family, our friends, and our wonderful Watson families for joining us in this celebration by attending our performance and showing us all such great love and support. In conjunction with our Music Around the World Club, we are participating in a service project benefiting Josh Groban's Find You Light Foundation. Working together for a special cause, my Kindergarten class and my Music Around the World Club, are selling "Cookies for Quarters" at all of our music events here at Watson this year. My Music Around the World Club also sold dvds of their performance to help raise funds for this important service project. I am excited to see how much we can raise this year to help others in need. Thank you for allowing me the great privilege of working with your wonderful students and celebrating the universal language of music together. I had a wonderful time, and I look forward to watching our students as they continue to "Find Their Light" and "Shine On"! Here is a link to our program and some pictures from this exciting event.
