Music Around The World--Week 7--Find Your Light Foundation Service Project

Wow! What an exciting day we had today at our seventh morning of our Music Around the World Club! We began our day by reviewing some of our favorite songs, "It's a Small World", "Kye Kye Kule", "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". Then, we learned our theme song for our Find Your Light service project, "Shine On". This is a song that was placed on Miss Todd's heart the first year of our service project. In addition to enjoying our Music Around the World class, we have partnered with Josh Groban's Find Your Light Foundation to add an opportunity to serve others in our world. We are helping to raise funds for public schools around the world who might not have the music or instruments that we are lucky enough to have here at Watson. At all of our music events, we are selling "Cookies for Quarters" to benefit this fund. We will also be selling a dvd of our Music Around the World show in May. All of the money that we raise will go to Find Your Light Foundation at the end of the year and be used to add wonderful musical experiences to the lives of children around the world. You can see our service project featured on Josh Groban's Find Your Light Foundation Facebook or Twitter page right now! Here is a link:

Maker Tank Magic

Wow! I am not sure when I have ever been so impressed with our student's creativity and innovation! Our amazing children created inventions to solve a problem in their lives that has been bugging them. They researched how to solve this problem, created a blueprint for their invention, and then built the prototype and brought it to school. Today we presented our projects to our classmates and choose a winner to represent us at our school wide Shark Tank style Maker Tank Talent Show on February 20th. Here are our friends' projects and our winner!

Roping at the Rodeo

Our Kindergarten students participated in an exciting P.E. program this week where they showed off their roping skills, performed a cowboy movement song, entertained us with a warm campfire tune, and shared a sweet rendition of "Put a Little Love in Your Heart"! They did a great job, and we had a wonderful time roping through the rodeo with them! Here is your chance to see them one more time in action. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

Spread the Love Service Project

During the week of Valentine's Day, we focused on the importance of showing love to others through serving others. Each day we found a way to help someone else in our community. Here are some of the exciting opportunities that we enjoyed this week:

Valentines for Veterans: We created Valentines for one of Miss Todd's former ETI student teachers who is currently serving in the military. We mailed them, along with a box of treats, to him. We hope that he can share them with his buddies on his base and help to make their day a little bit sweeter. We wanted them to know that we are thinking about them and wishing them a Happy Valentine's Day!

Welcome Back cards for our bilingual Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Regalado: We wanted to take some time to welcome back our bilingual Kindergarten teacher who has been out with her new baby girl. We wanted to let her know how much we missed her and that we are so glad to get to see her again. We made her welcome back cards and plan to deliver them to her next week when she returns.  Now any time she needs a pick me up, she can just choose a "welcome back" card to read to lift her spirits! We hope she likes them! :)

Senior Citizen Sweets: Another special activity from this week was when we created Valentine cards for our friends at Chambrel Senior Center up the street. We had a chance to visit this special group at Christmas time where we shared our Christmas musical with them. They were touched that we were able to share Valentine's Day treats with them as well.

Parents' Valentine Coupon Books: Finally,  we created Valentine coupon books for our parents. These coupons will allow our parents to cash them in for special surprises such as dish washing duty, sweeping opportunities, and room cleaning chances. Parents here is your chance to have some extra help at home! We hope you enjoy these moments! :)

Music Around the World--Week 6--South America

What an exciting day we had at our Music Around the World Club today! We learned all about South America and one of their favorite instruments--the rainstick. After exploring some of the special places you can visit in Brazil, we were able to learn about a day in the life of a boy from Brazil. We also saw some of the different ways that you can make a rainstick. We enjoyed learning about the rainstick so much that we decided to make our very own rainstick. Then, we had the privilege of singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" with our new instruments. We also reviewed two of our favorite songs, "La Raspa" and "You Are my Sunshine." We had such a fabulous day and can not wait until next week! Here are some pictures and a video from our exciting day! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

One Hundred Days of School

This week we celebrated the 100th Day of School! Can you believe that we have been in school for 100 days? Throughout the day we took pictures and made this show to give you a chance to see what fun and exciting things we did to celebrate the 100th day of school. We also created a movie where we told you what we have learned so far in 100 days of Kindergarten, and we sang our 100 Days of School song. Finally, we culminated our project based learning unit on the 100th Day of School by holding a fashion show. Our students dressed up in a t-shirt covered with 100 items. Then, they came to school and we showed them off by walking the red carpet in our creations. Here is a recording of this fun event. We hope you like it! Leave us a message and let us know what you think about our shows! Enjoy!

Here is a show from our exciting 100th Day of School:
