Music Around the World--A Christmas Edition--Week 3--Latin America

What a fun day we had in our third day of Music Around the World--A Christmas Edition! We learned about Latin America and the exciting music that this country has to offer. We were introduced to two of their favorite instruments the guiro and the maracas. We also enjoyed two of their favorite songs, our Christmas song, "Feliz Navidad", and, a traditional Latin American song, "De Colores." Check out our video from our fun day and some of our favorite pictures.

These two special friends of mine made my day by wearing our Find Your Light t-shirts from our Music Around the World club musical from last year! :)

Happy Halloween!

We had the wonderful privilege of being at school on Halloween this year, and we decided to celebrate it by participating in several exciting Halloween themed activities.

We began our day by enjoying a nonfiction and fiction book about pumpkins. First, we read The Pumpkin Patch and talked about the process of pumpkins being grown in the fields on farms. Then, we enjoyed a silly fiction story called The Biggest Pumpkin Ever where we watched two mice take care of a pumpkin and win the biggest pumpkin contest! We talked about text features and how nonfiction books contain table of contents, glossaries, and true facts. We discussed how fiction stories are often for entertainment and are full of imagination and opportunities to learn life lessons. Finally, we created our very own pumpkins where we labeled the parts of a pumpkin. We also turned our pumpkin that we got from our Green Meadows Pumpkin Patch field trip into a Jack-o-Lantern. We had a wonderful time with our pumpkin study and hope that you enjoy the pictures from this exciting event!

After that, we took on a STEAM math challenge where we listened to Ten Timid Ghosts. Then, we were challenged to build a haunted house for our ghost using cubes. We had to work together with our team and come up with a haunted house that could stand by itself and fit our ghost inside. Check out the cool creations that we made in the pictures below. We had SO much fun! :)

Finally, we decided to get a good laugh out of a silly story called, My Creepy Pair of Underwear. In this story a rabbit is afraid of his glowing underwear and tries to get rid of it, but in the end he realizes that he misses its warm glow and ends up purchasing many pairs to light up his room. We used this story to inspire us to be creative and make our own silly pair of creepy underwear. We took them home to attempt to scare our parents with these silly spooky creations.

All the Leaves are Falling Down

This week we studied about fall and explored fall leaves. We had the chance to go outside and collect fall leaves. Then, we participated in exciting learning games where we compared them and sorted them by shape and size. We also learned about describing words (adjectives) and created a bubble map where we described one of the leaves that we had found. Finally, we took the time to be creative and used our leaf collections to make leaf buddies. Here are some pictures from our leaf adventures. We hope you like them! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!
