Spread the Love Service Project

During the week of Valentine's Day, we focused on the importance of showing love to others through serving others. Each day we found a way to help someone else in our community. Here are some of the exciting opportunities that we enjoyed this week:

Valentines for Veterans: We created Valentines for one of our Watson teacher's veteran husband to share with his veteran friends. He is going to deliver them for us to them. We hope that he can share them with his buddies and help to make their day a little bit sweeter. We wanted them to know that we are thinking about them and wishing them a Happy Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Cards for our Parents: We wanted to do something extra special for our first Valentine who we love so very much--our parents. We took the time to make some super sweet Valentine cards just for them. I know that they loved them! They were so very cute! 

Parents' Valentine Coupon Books: Finally,  we created Valentine coupon books for our parents. These coupons will allow our parents to cash them in for special surprises such as dish washing duty, sweeping opportunities, and room cleaning chances. Parents here is your chance to have some extra help at home! We hope you enjoy these moments! :) 

Music Around the World--Week 4--Native America

Wow! Where do I begin! We had a wonderful time in our Music Around the World class today studying some of the beautiful music that came from Native America. After reviewing "It's a Small World," "Kookaburra," and "La Raspa", three of our songs from last week, we had the opportunity to learn about the legend of The Flute Player by listening to an old Apache legend. We learned that the flute is a special instrument to our teacher, Miss Todd, who plays it in a local orchestra. She had brought her flute with her to class today and shared a song with us called "Offertorie".  We also learned that the Native Americans used to play a sister instrument of the flute called a panpipe. Their panpipes were made out of reeds that had been cut different lengths and tuned to play various notes. Miss Todd showed us how to play "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" on the panpipes. Then, she taught us to play them and allowed us to create our very own panpipes. We had so much fun exploring the panpipes and can not wait to share "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" with our families at our Music Around the World Celebration Night! Under Construction

During our study of systems this week, we talked about tall towers, bridges, and nests. We discussed what a building would need to have in order to withstand natural disasters and be a good structure for a home. Here are the towers that our children created in class this week. We have also included pictures of the bridges that we created and the nests that we made to try to save Humpty Dumpty from cracking when he fell off the wall. Legoland

What a wonderful field trip we had to Legoland. This event kicked off our unit on tall towers and bridges. This week we began learning about what a building needs to remain strong and how the parts of a building work together as a system.
