Rumble in the Jungle

Our Kindergarten students participated in an exciting P.E. program this week where they showed off their parachute skills, practiced dribbling a basketball, jumped rope, and performed a rousing rendition of "If You Are Happy and You Know it"! They did a great job, and we had a wonderful time rumbling through the jungle with them! Here is your chance to see them one more time in action. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

Music Around the World STEAMSchool Day 7 and 8--England and Japan

This week in our Music Around the World STEAMSchool we enjoyed learning about England and Japan. We explored the Time for Kids website for each of these countries and learned about many unique places that they have to offer. In England, we learned that they enjoy having tea and saw amazing pictures of Big Ben. Then, we made tambourines and learned to play "London Bridges". Here is a video and some pictures from our fun day.

Day 8: Japan--We really enjoyed seeing all of the exciting places that you could visit in Japan. We decided that one of our favorite things in Japan was the beautiful cherry blossom trees. We learned one of their favorite Japanese songs, "Sakura". This song celebrates their love for their special trees. Here is our celebration of "Sakura" and some pictures from day!

Dallas Zoo

We had a wonderful time visiting the Dallas Zoo. With the help of a grant from Donor's Choose, we had the opportunity to see the animals that we have been studying in real life! It was so much fun, and we learned a lot too! :)

Here is a show and some pictures of our fun day! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

Music Around the World STEAMSchool Day 6--America

Wow! What an exciting day we had today at our sixth morning of our Music Around the World Club! Today we learned about our country--America! We focused on how Texans like to put a country twist on American favorites. After reviewing "Kookaburra" and "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", we were treated to a special guest, Miss Todd's Dad, Mr. Todd. He played his guitar for us and sang, "Sneaky Snake", a song that he and Miss Todd sang together when she was our age. If you watch closely, you can also see a sneak peak of Gus, Miss Todd's dog, who loves music and enjoys singing along to Mr. Todd's playing. After enjoying Mr. Todd's presentation, we had the opportunity to create string things, washboards, and harmonicas. We used these instruments to accompany our song, "You Are my Sunshine!" You can listen to our rousing rendition in the show we made below. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think about our fun day!

Don't forget to join us on Wednesday morning, June 1st at 8:15 A.M. for our "Sing and Share" a Music Around the World Celebration! You are going to enjoy seeing all of the instruments that we have created and songs that we have learned on our musical journey around the world!

Music Around the World STEAMSchool Day 5--South America

What an exciting day we had at our Music Around the World Club today! We learned all about South America and one of their favorite instruments--the rainstick. After exploring some of the special places you can visit in Brazil, we were able to learn about a day in the life of a boy from Brazil. We also saw some of the different ways that you can make a rainstick. We enjoyed learning about the rainstick so much that we decided to make our very own rainstick. Then, we had the privilege of singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" with our new instruments. We also reviewed one of our favorite songs, "Kookaburra". We had such a fabulous day and can not wait until tomorrow! Here are some pictures and a video from our exciting day! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

Music Around the World STEAMSchool Day 4--Native America

Wow! Where do I begin! We had a wonderful time in our Music Around the World class today studying some of the beautiful music that came from Native America. After reviewing "Kye Kye Kule" and "This Little Light of Mine", two of our songs from last week, we had the opportunity to learn about the legend of The Flute Player by listening to an old Apache legend. We learned that the flute is a special instrument to our teacher, Miss Todd, who plays it in a local orchestra. She had brought her flute with her to class today and shared a Native American song with us called "Wind Song".  We also learned that the Native Americans used to play a sister instrument of the flute called a panpipe. Their panpipes were made out of reeds that had been cut different lengths and tuned to play various notes. Miss Todd showed us how to play "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" on the panpipes. Then, she taught us to play them and allowed us to create our very own panpipes. We had so much fun exploring the panpipes and can not wait to share "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" with our families! Here are some pictures from our exciting day and a video of our experiences. We hope that you enjoy them! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.
