Music Around the World--Session 3--Week 4--South America

What an exciting day we had at our Music Around the World Club today! We learned all about South America and one of their favorite instruments--the rainstick. After exploring some of the special places you can visit in Brazil, we were able to learn about a day in the life of a boy from Brazil. We also saw some of the different ways that you can make a rainstick. We enjoyed learning about the rainstick so much that we decided to make our very own rainstick. Then, we had the privilege of singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" with our new instruments. We also reviewed two of our favorite songs, "La Raspa" and "You Are my Sunshine." We had such a fabulous day and can not wait until next week! Here are some pictures and a video from our exciting day! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

Flat Stanley Adventures

We recently completed our Flat Stanley project! After reading the story of Flat Stanley, we created our own Flat Stanleys and mailed them to family/friends who lived all over the country. We sent them some interesting facts and information about our hometown and asked them to tell us about theirs. Over the past couple of weeks, our Flat Stanleys have returned home, and we have been sharing their adventures with our friends in our class. It has been so much fun to learn about the different states in our country and all of the exciting places that you can visit! Here is a show of our Flat Stanley adventures. We hope you enjoy learning about the United States of America as much as we did! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

Powerful Plants

Just as a flower grows when tended to with love and care, we are continuing to grow in our learning each week. This week we focused on plants. We explored the parts of a plant, compared the different seeds that plants come from, and had an opportunity to plant our own lima bean plants. Here are some pictures from our science explorations from this week.

Music Around the World--Session 3--Week 3--Native America

Wow! Where do I begin! We had a wonderful time in our Music Around the World class today studying some of the beautiful music that came from Native America. After reviewing "It's a Small World" and "Kye Kye Kule", two of our songs from last week, we had the opportunity to learn about the legend of The Flute Player by listening to an old Apache legend. We learned that the flute is a special instrument to our teacher, Miss Todd, who plays it in a local orchestra. She had brought her flute with her to class today and shared a song with us called "Offertorie".  We also learned that the Native Americans used to play a sister instrument of the flute called a panpipe. Their panpipes were made out of reeds that had been cut different lengths and tuned to play various notes. Miss Todd showed us how to play "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" on the panpipes. Then, she taught us to play them and allowed us to create our very own panpipes. We had so much fun exploring the panpipes and can not wait to share "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" with our families at our Music Around the World Celebration Night! Here are some pictures from our exciting day and a video of our experiences. We hope that you enjoy them! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.

I had the privilege of sharing my flute with our kids today. Some of them wanted a copy of the song that I played for them. Here it is: https://soundcloud.com/user-955400071/offetorie
Hope you enjoy it! :)

Measurement Rocks!

In math this week, we studied all of the different ways that you can measure items. This included measuring by length, weight, and capacity. Here is a show of our experiments from this week and some pictures of us using everyday objects to measure length. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

We have been busy this week exploring nature, while learning about the different ways that you can measure an item. After going on a nature walk around our school, we used the rocks that we collected to investigate size, by sorting our rocks.  Here are some pictures of our rock sort. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think! We love hearing from you! Thanks!
