Lunar New Year Celebration

We were blessed this week with a visit from our friends at Panda Express. They shared about the beautiful traditions that are celebrated during the Lunar New Year. They brought us prizes and a wonderful visit from their friend, Panda. We had such a marvelous time and learned so much from them! We cannot thank them enough for coming!

Music Around the World--Session 2--Week 6--South America

What an exciting day we had at our Music Around the World Class today! We learned all about South America and one of their favorite instruments--the rainstick. After exploring some of the special places you can visit in Brazil, we were able to learn about a day in the life of a boy from Brazil. We also saw some of the different ways that you can make a rainstick. We enjoyed learning about the rainstick so much that we decided to make our very own rainstick. Then, we had the privilege of singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" with our new instruments. We also reviewed two of our favorite songs, "You are my Sunshine" and "It's a Small World." We had such a fabulous day and can not wait to share our show with you all in May! Here are some pictures and a video from our exciting day! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

Wonderful Water

This week in Science we enjoyed reviewing everything we have learned about rocks, soil, and water. We learned the uses of each of these natural resources and studied their characteristics.

While studying about water, we learned that water takes the shape of the container that it is in and that the clarity of water is effected by pollution. We explored water and how we could make it rock, spin, and even shake. We also conducted an experiment with solutions and water, where we learned what items dissolved in water and what items did not. We even created our own volcano using water and other mixtures that when combined created a chemical reaction. Check out our amazing video of this experiment:

You've Got a Friend in Me

Our Kindergarten and First Grade students recently had the privilege of hosting our very own PTA program. We enjoyed putting on an exciting show entitled, "You've Got a Friend in Me!" where we defined the meaning of friendship in our lives and encouraged others to go out into our world and spread love and kindness to others. Our kids did an amazing job, and I could not be more proud of them. Thank you for reminding us all about the power of sharing love and kindness with others! You lit up the stage and spoke to so many hearts that night! Here are a few video clips and pictures from our special night. I have also attached a link to our whole show!

You've Got a Friend in Me Show

Slideshow

For the past eleven years our Kindergartners have had the privilege of partnering with Josh Groban’s Find Your Light Foundation to make programs like this one possible for boys and girls in public schools across the United States. Josh recently wrote and recorded a song for his foundation entitled, “Granted” where he encourages our children to find their light within them and go out into the world and write their own story. This song encompasses all of the hopes and dreams that we have for our children, and it felt very fitting for our program. As you watch our slideshow together, may you know that we never take a single moment that we have with your precious children for granted. Here is our Watson MST version of “Granted.”
