Music Around the World--A Christmas Edition--Week 5--South America

What an exciting day we had at our Music Around the World Club today! We learned all about South America and one of their favorite instruments--the rainstick. After exploring some of the special places you can visit in Brazil, we were able to learn about a day in the life of a boy from Brazil. We also saw some of the different ways that you can make a rainstick. We enjoyed learning about the rainstick so much that we decided to make our very own rainstick. Then, we had the privilege of singing "Let There Be Peace on Earth" with our new instruments. We also reviewed two of our favorite songs, "Let it Be Christmas Everywhere" and "Carol of the Bells". We had such a fabulous day and can not wait until next week! Here are some pictures and a video from our exciting day! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

Thanksgiving Musical and Feast

We hope that you were able to come and see our Thanksgiving Musical and Feast today! This was our culminating activity for our study of Thanksgiving. Our students created their costumes and learned the songs and motions during the week. This video is a recording of our live performance from today. We hope that you enjoy it! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think. I have also included some pictures from our Thanksgiving Musical and Feast and from our turkey cupcake snack that we made today. Happy Thanksgiving!

Thankful Thoughts

During our study of Thanksgiving, we talked a lot about being thankful for the blessings that you have been given in your life. Our Kindergarten students created an iMovie so that you could hear about the things that they are thankful for. Please listen and enjoy. Leave us a comment and let us know what you are thankful for. Thanks!

We also decorated a turkey so that he could be saved from his Thanksgiving day demise. We created a show so that you could see their disguises. Enjoy!

Music Around the World--A Christmas Edition--Week 4--Native America

Wow! Where do I begin! We had a wonderful time in our Music Around the World class today studying some of the beautiful music that came from Native America. After reviewing "Let it Be Christmas Everywhere", "Roo Roo the Kangaroo",  and "Feliz Navidad", three of our songs from last week, we had the opportunity to learn about the legend of The Flute Player by listening to an old Apache legend. We learned that the flute is a special instrument to our teacher, Miss Todd, who plays it in a local orchestra. She had brought her flute with her to class today and shared a special song with us called "Offertoire".  We also learned that the Native Americans used to play a sister instrument of the flute called a panpipe. Their panpipes were made out of reeds that had been cut different lengths and tuned to play various notes. Miss Todd showed us how to play "Carol of the Bells", a Ukranian Christmas carol, on the panpipes. Then, she taught us to play them and allowed us to create our very own panpipes. We had so much fun exploring the panpipes and can not wait to share "Carol of the Bells" with our families at our Music Around the World Celebration Night! Here are some pictures from our exciting day and a video of our experiences. We hope that you enjoy them! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.

The Amazing Officer Wollett

We were so blessed to enjoy a visit from the amazingly talented Officer Scott Wollett on Friday. He is  a graduate from Juilliard and has performed with symphonies all over the country. Officer Wollett has a passion for service, which he shared with our Kindergartners. He talked about the power of music and how music can touch all hearts and bring joy to all people. He treated us to a musical extravaganza by serenading us with his oboe and guitar. He even played a song that he wrote for us and allowed us to sing along. We shared with him about our love for music and how we are using music to change the world for the better by partnering with Josh Groban through our Find Your Light Foundation service project.

This was a piece from Officer Wollett's senior recital.

Then, he shared another one of his passions with us, his career as a Garland police officer. Officer Wollett explained how police officers are our friends who are here to help and serve our community. He showed our Kindergartners the tools of his trade and allowed our sweet Sophie to assist him in showing how his handcuffs work. He reminded us to call 911 in an emergency and most importantly to never be afraid to ask a police officer for help when we need someone to protect us.

The biggest lesson that we learned from Officer Wollett's visit was that you can use your passions and talents to make a difference in our world and touch the lives of others. We hope to grow up one day and do just that! Thank you again Officer Wollett for taking the time out of your busy day to visit with us and share your talents with our future leaders! You are appreciated! :)

Fancy Farm Animals

During our study of farm animals, our students created a google slide presentation where they were able to showcase the facts that they learned from their farm animal research project. As a part of that study, we created keynote presentations to highlight the animals and things in our PBL project which were living and nonliving. Here is our google slides presentation and keynotes for you all to enjoy! Click on the link below to view our google slide show. Once you open the show, click on present. To view your child's keynote presentation, click on his/her initials below. I have also included pictures of the cute farm animal art projects that our Kindergartners created after meeting their animals in person. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think about them!
