Meltdown and Math Problems

This week in science we learned about heat energy, thermal energy, and light energy. One of our favorite memories was when we played "Meltdown" an exciting game where we used friction and heat energy to melt an ice cube. We worked in partners and raced against our classmates to see who could melt the ice cube first. Here are some fun pictures and videos from our game. We hope you enjoy them!

In math, we have been studying about addition and subtraction. We have learned that addition stories take two groups and join them together to find the sum and that subtraction stories take a group and separate some from the group leaving you to find the difference. We have been working on creating our own addition and subtraction problems using the Educreations app and the Showme app. We have also created some addition stories on paper as well. Here are some examples of the exciting stories we have written this week. We hope you like them.

Music Around the World--A Christmas Edition--Week 5--South America

What an exciting day we had at our Music Around the World Class today! We learned all about South America and two of their favorite instruments--rainsticks and shakers. After exploring some of the special places you can visit in Brazil, we were able to learn about a day in the life of a boy from Brazil. We also saw some of the different ways that you can make a rainstick or shaker. We enjoyed learning about the rainsticks and shakers so much that we decided to make our very own rainsticks and shakers. Then, we had the privilege of singing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" with our new instruments. After that, we learned another American Christmas song, "Jingle Bells." Finally, we reviewed two of our favorite songs, "Mele Kalikimaka" and "Jolly Ole' Saint Nicholas". We had such a fabulous day and can not wait until next week! Here are some pictures and a video from our exciting day! Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

Heating and Cooling Never Tasted So Good

This week in science we had a wonderful time exploring the world of heating and cooling. We even made a tasty treat during our studies. Who knew that science could taste so good!

We started our week by creating ice chalk. We mixed together the ingredients we needed and poured the mixture into ice cube trays. Then, we placed it in the freezer to cool. The next day we were able to play with our ice chalk. It was messy but so much fun!

Then, we explored the world of heating and cooling through a fun taste test. We created ice cream by mixing the ingredients in a bowl and placing it in a bag. Then, we added our mixture to a large bag of rock salt and ice and shook it up to make a chemical reaction that would cause it to freeze and turn into ice cream. We enjoyed eating our creation along with a hot chocolate sauce that we had heated in a crock pot and poured on top. Here are some exciting pictures and videos from our fun adventures this week. We hope you like them!
